Schedule and What'll They Do?

Wednesday 15 July

  • Session 1 | 9:00am – 12:00pm | Voyage Through the Solar System
    Just how big is our Solar System? Are there more planets out there? Let's explore the interesting world of planets together!

  • Session 2 | 1:00pm – 4:00pm | Secrets of the Moon
    Our closest neighbour is stranger than you'd think. We will explore the Moon up close, from the craters left behind to the weird moon phrase! Then we will pack for a trip to the moon!

  • 6:00pm – 8:00pm | Family Stargazing: Aboriginal Astronomy by Pete Swanton

Thursday 16 July

  • Session 3 | 9:00am – 12:00pm | Mission: Space
    What does it actually take to leave Earth? We will step into the shoes of a space engineer, build our own rockets, and navigate a Mars rover challenge. No experience required, but it is rocket science!

  • Session 4 | 1:00pm – 4:00pm | Excursion to the one and only Planetarium!
    Visit the one and only planetarium in Canberra and experience the wonder of the universe.

Friday 17 July

  • Session 5 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | Beyond Stromlo: Excursion Day
    A full day ahead! We are heading off the mountain for a day of discovery, with a wildlife encounter in the morning, followed by a visit to Geoscience Australia and a journey to the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.

  • Enclosed walking shoes
  • A comfortable backpack

Important Notes

  • Parents must sign children in and out at the start and end of each session. Any changes to pick-up arrangements must be communicated to staff as soon as possible.
  • All staff hold current WWVP and First Aid qualifications.
  • The programme may be adjusted for weather or partner availability. Final details will be confirmed in your welcome email.
  • Family Stargazing sessions are subject to weather conditions. We reserve the right to cancel, reschedule, offer a refund, or adjust the format of the session if weather does not permit. We will notify all registered participants on the morning of the event.
